The Amherst Regional boys ultimate team needs support to reach the High School Ultimate Invitational.

The Hurricanes were invited to the 32-team tournament, which runs June 16 and 17 in Salt Lake City, Utah. There are 16 open teams and 16 girls teams that will participate. It’s their first visit to this event after previously competing in the High School nationals in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

They’ve established a fundraising page on zeffy.com seeking $10,000 that will go toward flights, housing, food and transportation. Amherst has already raised nearly $2,500 as of Monday morning.

The Hurricanes are also hosting a fundraising event at 6 p.m. May 25 at the Wheelhouse in Amherst (383 main street). Tickets range from $30-$100 and include raffle tickets and drink tickets.

AND THE GIRLS KEEP RUNNIN’ AND RUNNIN’ –  Girls on the Run of Western Massachusetts is hosting its annual 5K at 10:30 a.m. June 3 at Western New England University.

Girls on the Run is a physical activity-based youth development program for girls in third to eighth grade that uses running games and dynamic discussions to teach life skills. The 10 week program helps foster confidence, build peer connections and encourage community service on the way to the 5K.

There are 1,030 participants across 75 sites in Western Massachusetts.

A group warm up will begin at 10 a.m. Participation in the 5K is open to the public, and 4,000 people participated last year. Registration costs $30 for adults and $10 for youths and includes an event shirt.
