DEERFIELD — Torrential downpours Friday afternoon that caused extensive damage in Franklin County have closed Lower Road and Pine Nook Road in Deerfield long-term, while Greenfield Road (Routes 5 and 10) reopened over the weekend after being impassable on Friday.

Deerfield Police Department advises that work is ongoing, so drivers should expect delays and use caution.

Friday’s storm caused a culvert on Lower Road to collapse due to too much water swelling a creek that flows into the Deerfield River. The collapse led to an SUV, which was traveling northbound at the time, falling into the river, with one female inside. Firefighters were able to rescue the woman, who did not sustain any major injuries.

The National Weather Service reported that between 3 and 5.5 inches of rain fell between 3 and 4 p.m., with more that came Friday night.
