High Schools: Frontier volleyball defeats Turners Falls in meeting of western Mass. champions

The Frontier girls volleyball team defeated Turners Falls in four sets on Friday night on the road in a matchup of two western Mass. winners from 2023 – Frontier in Class B and Turners Falls in Class D. 

The Redhawks won 25-11, 21-25, 25-11, 25-15.

Abigail Hernandez led Frontier with eight kills, Bailey Martin had seven, Olivia Machon made six and Sophia Pinardi added four. Arianna Miller put down nine aces on 31 serves and Parrish Stilla dished out 24 assists. 

Frontier (9-4) is home for its next game, against Central on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Easthampton 3, Greenfield 2 – Easthampton lost the first and fourth sets against Greenfield on Friday, but the Eagles came back to deliver a resounding fifth set and win 18-25, 25-20, 25-20, 16-25, 15-6 at home. With the win, the Eagles snap a four-game skid and improve to 3-9.

Brittany Sumba led Easthampton with 10 kills, while Camilla Corsello and Aziza Menendez added five each. Summer Routhier kept the offense humming with 12 assists. On the defensive end, Addison Sigda made 13 digs, Skowron made 11, Kaylin Dumas made seven and Sumba made five.

Smith Voc 3, Holyoke 0 – Heidymar Diaz-Lopez put up four aces, two blocks, seven assists, seven digs and 15 kills and Hecmarie Diaz-Lopez made 35 digs to lead the 10-2 Vikings to a 25-17, 25-20, 25-20 win, their eighth straight.

Boys soccer

Longmeadow 3, Amherst 1 – Brandon Barahona scored for Amherst off a feed from Jonah Eggemeier.

PVCICS 0, Pathfinder 0 – The Dragons hit a couple posts and Damian Loinaz made five saves in net, but neither team scored on Friday in Palmer.

South Hadley 9, Mahar 0 – The Tigers ran away from the Senators behind two goals apiece from Jack Chagnon, Carlos David, Brady Graham and Joe Sabourin, in addition to a tally from PJ Lavelle. David and Ben Gillis each contributed two assists and Dan Beaulieu, Gavin Losty, Nolan Masse and Martin Dixon added one each. Goalie Noah Carillon made five saves,

Smith Academy 3, Greenfield 2 – The Falcons came back from a 2-1 halftime deficit behind a Cajun Benson hat trick. Benson got assists from Matt Scagel and Lukas Punska. Goalie Jake Wilcox made three saves.

East Longmeadow 1, Belchertown 0 – Jack Mandeville made six saves in goal for the Orioles.

Granby 3, Gateway 0 – The Rams moved to 7-2-2 (6-1-2 Schmid) with three goals in the second half from Gavin Moreno, Riley Goodhind and Jake Gagnon. Goodhind also added two assists and Daniel Santiago made two saves. Gateway goalie Zach Hess made seven saves and teammate Vitaly Chepurenko made five.

Girls soccer

Southwick 3, Frontier 0 – Aylen Shaw made a dozen stops in goal for the Redhawks.

Greenfield 4, Holyoke 2 – Kyra Lippman recorded a goal and an assist and Leilany Figueroa also scored. Goalie Jayvah Stuckey made eight saves.

Golf

Belchertown 164, Ludlow 170 – The Orioles moved to 11-2 thanks to a 34 from Michael Murray, a 42 from Daniel Hulmes and 44s from Brady Jolly and Jared Haynes.

South Hadley 154, Easthampton 193 – Ryan MacGregor shot a 35, Caiden Drohan wasn’t far behind with a 37 and the Tigers won their third match in four days to improve to 12-2. Ryley McMahon and Luke Guiel shot 44s. Amelia Gruber led Easthampton with a 40, followed by Jacob Murrett (46), Nico Francis (53), Landon Dickson (54) and Aiden Subocz (54).

Chicopee Comp 180, Frontier 189 – Ryan Cetto paced the Redhawks with a 42.

Field hockey

Frontier 7, West Springfield 0 — A whopping seven different Redhawks players tallied goals in a dominant team performance on Thursday, leading to a shutout win over the Terriers.

Ashlie Galenski, Ashley Taylor, Lauryn Kalinowski, Rowan Reilly, Nora Sloan, Brynna Fahey and Addie Harrington all scored goals while Stella Heflin, Kate Walker, Harrington and Amelia Bouchard tallied assists.

Girls soccer

Frontier 1, Easthampton 0 – Maddie Fagan scored the decider Thursday night, off an assist from Skyler Steel. Frontier goalie Aylen Shaw made five saves and Easthampton goalie Addison Barr made seven.
