For the second year in a row, Holyoke’s Chris Tallman found some magic at a Western Massachusetts golf course with advancement toward the U.S. Open on the line.

Tallman fired a 6-under-par 64, earning medalist honors in a 2024 U.S. Open Local Qualifier at Longmeadow Country Club on Monday.

The former head professional at Holyoke Country Club also had the low round at last year’s local qualifier, held at The Orchards in South Hadley.

Next up is final qualifying (formerly sectional qualifying) on June 3 at several courses throughout the country. Players who advance above the cut there will earn spots in the 124th U.S. Open to be contested on Pinehurst Resort & Country Club’s Course No. 2, in the Village of Pinehurst, N.C., for the fourth time from June 13-16.

The top four finishers in Monday’s local qualifier advanced, with the cut line to continue on in U.S. Open qualifying at 1-under.

Conway’s Gunnar Moore shot a 2-over-par 72, going 1-under on his back nine. Hadley’s Nick Stern shot 4-over 74.
