In the past two years, candidate Donald Trump has made over 100 statements threatening to “rough up” and even imprison “the enemy within,” including Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama, Adam Schiff, donors to Harris’ campaign, judges who have ruled against him, and election officials if he regains power. This is the hallmark of fascism.

In dictatorships, political opponents, protesters, and the press are seen as threats to their absolute power. Those who are critical of or oppose the regime risk harassment, imprisonment, torture and death. Apologists for Trump say his threats are not to be taken seriously. However, threats of fascism should always be taken seriously.

When asked about the type of government we would have after signing the Constitution, Benjamin Franklin was quoted as saying, “A republic, if you can keep it.” Our republic and our future are on the ballot Nov. 5. Vote for democracy over dictatorship. Vote for Kamala Harris to be our next president.
