Mary Ingari: 12 pot shops are enough

I am writing in favor of capping the number of marijuana dispensaries in Northampton. We have the most dispensaries per capita than any other city in Massachusetts. At a recent City Council meeting, the vast majority of citizens spoke out in favor of a cap because of the harmful effects of this drug on teenagers’ health and social development. The City Council voted in favor of a cap following a lengthy discussion. We now have 11 pot shops, and one more can be added if there is a 12 dispensary limit. That should be enough. Any more than that would diminish Northampton’s reputation as a center for culture and the arts.
