Tina Sanchez: Northampton streets

The guest column [“Save Main Street,” Sept. 18] misses quite a few marks. Putting aside that the money allocated for Northampton’s Main Street redesign cannot be used for other projects, the writer says little or nothing about the actualities of trying to walk the narrow, barely viable streets of some neighborhoods in the city, even as the writer may find them charming and pretty, most specifically, the often ignored Ward 3 neighborhood off Pleasant Street and south of Main Street. As a resident there, our neighborhood often feels like an afterthought for the city. The streets there are neglected, outdated and sometimes hazardous and there seems to be little or no interest in addressing these problems. It is unfortunate that the writer offers no meaningful ideas or solutions.
