PLAINFIELD — A 55-year-old local man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Grant Street around 12:30 p.m. Saturday, the Northwestern district attorney’s office reported.

John Henry Burt of Plainfield died after when his car went off the road into the woods off Grant Street near the intersection with North Street.

Burt, the sole occupant of the car, was trapped, and Fire Chief David Alvord said Cummington Fire Department assisted with extrication.

Burt was transported by Highland Ambulance to Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, where he was pronounced dead shortly before 1 p.m.

Alvord said he conducted a Critical Incident Stress Management debriefing Monday evening at the Public Safety Complex for those involved with the accident rescue.

He said many firefighters and EMTs knew Burt, and some were his neighbors.

State police detectives attached to the Northwestern district attorney’s office and troopers from the Crime Scene Services Section and Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section also responded to the scene.
