In his first start of the season, Jon Morrison struck out 13 in a 9-3 win for the Hopkins Academy baseball team over Pioneer Regional, Tuesday in Northfield.

Morrison pitched six innings and gave up three earned runs.

Noah Scanlon-Dean and Nate Kelley each had three hits for Hopkins (1-0).

Morrison added a couple RBIs at the plate.

Ware 8, Hampshire Regional 4 — Five errors hurt the Raiders in their season opener.

Ware scored seven of its eight runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

Matt York had three hits and an RBI for Hampshire (0-1), and Camden Kelly had a hit and two RBIs.

Northampton 10, East Longmeadow 2 — After playing 12 innings and using three pitchers Monday, the Blue Devils (1-1) got a much-needed complete-game victory from R.J. Safron on the road.

Safron allowed no earned runs, gave up three hits and struck out seven.

Joe Pion went 3-for-4 with four RBIs while Devin Kellogg added three hits, including a RBI double.

Smith Academy 2, Greenfield 1 — John Ferrara scored the Falcons’ first run of the game and drove in the winning run with a double in the fifth before earning the save to close out the game.

Liam Pitrat earned the win, allowing one unearned run off four hits and no walks with five strikeouts over 6⅓ on the mound.

Matt Bouley went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Smith Vocational 15, Pioneer Valley Christian 13 — The Vikings overcame an early deficit to earn a home win over the Eagles to start the season.

Hunter Brooks went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and one RBI for Smith Voke.

The Vikings capitalized on 11 walks and eight errors.

St. Mary 7, Granby 4 — Noah Bleakley went 2-for-2 with two doubles and two RBIs but the Rams (1-2) lost at home.

South Hadley 9, Mohawk 6 — An early lead for the Tigers held up on the road to open the season.

The Tigers led 8-1 before a five-run fourth for the Warriors.

Ryan Mooney came on in relief to pick up the win, giving up a hit and three strikeouts.

Evan Levrault had two hits and three RBIs for South Hadley (1-0)

Athol 6, Frontier 5 — The Red Hawks (1-1) gave up a walk-off RBI single to take a road loss.

Bryce Jordan had a two-run double in the fifth inning.

Attempting to take the lead on Jordan’s double, Kade Gewanter got thrown out at home on the play.

Belchertown 13, Easthampton 4 — The Orioles overpowered the Eagles for their second straight win to open the season.

Tanner Clarke went 3-for-5 with four RBIs for Belchertown.

Ryan French pitched all seven innings for Belchertown, allowing four runs off four hits while striking out seven.

For the Eagles, Lance Parrish went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Dawson Wolcott went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Softball

Smith Voke 26, Putnam 7 (5) — The Vikings offense unloaded in a road win over the Beavers.

Allison Kowalczyk went 4-for-5 with a solo homer and four RBIs. Gabby Petlock had two hits, four runs scored and three RBIs.

Amanda York connected on a three run homer for the Vikings (2-0).

Samantha Von Haugg pitched five innings, giving up six earned runs and striking out 11.
