HOLYOKE — An arrest warrant has been issued for a 35-year-old Springfield man who allegedly shot a man inside the Unicorn on High Street on Saturday, Dec. 17.

John Brown Jr., who Holyoke police said is not in custody and is considered armed and “extremely dangerous,” faces charges of attempted murder, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, felony possession of a firearm, assault and battery with a firearm, carrying a firearm without a license and possessing ammunition without an FID Card, police said in a statement Wednesday afternoon.

Police identified Brown as the suspect after an investigation by the Holyoke Police Criminal Investigation Bureau and Narcotics Division and the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit.

On Dec. 17, police responded to the Unicorn, at 126 High St., at around 8:45 p.m., where they found a man on the floor who had been shot several times. The gunman allegedly shot the victim an additional time after he fell to the floor and walked out of the bar, police said. The victim was transported to a local hospital and that night was reported to be in stable condition.

Holyoke Police are encouraging anyone with information to contact the department’s Criminal Investigation Bureau at 413-322-6900. Citizens may also use Text A Tip, an anonymous message system, by texting 274637.
